Best Nerd Moments

I just found out that Maiden Alley Cinema is hosting a double feature of Troll 2 and The Best Worst Movie. I know the movie is horrifyingly bad, but...I almost wanted to go see it.

After reading almost all the comments of the Nerd Regret post over at Topless Robot, and one in particular of a teacher trying to stifle the nerdiness, I thought I would do a post on some favorite nerdy moments. Extreme moments of Nerd Joy, I guess you’d call it. I’ll go first with a couple moments, if anyone on my friends list wants to add any of theirs.

-Having a 10th grade Math teacher that spotted me reading Lord of the Rings (I had to read The Hobbit with a quiz at the end of every chapter, and wanted to see if the rest was good) one day. When he asked if I liked it, I said sure--he took me back to a closet. In it? Tons of science fiction books. I was told I could have whichever ones I wanted—if they were rare, write them down and he would try to find another copy for me. Because of him I discovered The Sword of Shannara, and other books like that.

-Having a librarian in high school who didn’t mind me coming in and basically living in the library when I was exempt for an entire two days of final exams. Because of that, I read the entire back wall in two days. Because of being there so often, I was the first one she thought of when she needed a library aide for two class periods in my senior year. Because I knew where everything was. So being a bookaholic paid off.

Oh, and here’s something interesting that I found via dexfarkin: Paste text from something you’ve written into this site. It tells you what famous writer your writing resembles. When I pasted text from No Proton Packs Beyond These Doors, it said Douglas Adams. When I put in text from what I wrote for the last yuletide, it said Bram Stoker. It kept going back and forth between them with whatever I wrote.
