We had several rounds of storms last night, almost like the other day. This time, Dad was the only one that heard short (over by the time he warned everyone) tornado siren, and got everyone up. My excuse for not hearing is a migraine that set in a few hours prior to the storm popping up. To everyone in St. Louis, (or anywhere else that received some bad damage) you have my sympathies.

ETA: Argh! Just as I hit enter, a giant spider fell down on me from the ceiling. Immediate response: beat it to death.

The mailman just delivered our mail in the middle of torrential rain. While tornado sirens were going off. As lightning was flashing. Sure, he fled the mail truck for a few minutes and took refuge in someone's house down the street when it was at its worst, but he still got our mail to us. Dad met him with an umbrella, and told him delivering mail isn't worth his life. He said he knew, and drove to the next house.

After I started watching Doctor Who after downloading it, we received word that a tornado was coming. So with 15 minutes to go on the episode, had to get into the hall. Since the sirens started shortly thereafter.

So, all in all? It hit Barkley Regional Airport, and caused extensive damage. It made it as far as Lourdes Hospital, which is less than a mile away. There might be some damage to downtown Paducah, but I'm not sure. We were watching the camera the local news does, and thought we saw debris flying by.

We're fine, even if the baseball field behind the house is halfway underwater. The sirens (and everything else) lasted from 2 PM, until 3:15 PM, and the power went out for 1 minute.

Ballard County took the brunt of it, and Bardwell has shut down part of Highway 62 to clean up. Eddyville is currently getting hit with golf ball sized hail, in addition to the 80 mph winds and all the rest.

Down at Honey Well--that's in Metropolis--the shed set up for the people on strike was destroyed. I haven't heard if anyone was in it at the time, or not.

Anyone else getting this right now, try to stay safe.

ETA: Oh, man. Dwight was mowing the yard as the tornado hit. He's fine. Refused to go into his house until he was finished, despite the sirens...wind...rain...wife shouting at him...wife calling him...Dad shouting to him. He finished the yard! It was about 5 minutes into the worst of it, when he went inside.

ETA 2: There were four union members in the thing that was destroyed at Honey Well. When the storm started, they ran into another building. That, too, was destroyed, but they weren't hurt. I'm also hearing that in La Center, someone's car port lifted off the ground, flew across the street, and landed in a tree--where it's now hanging. Bardwell is pretty much destroyed, going by early reports.

Dad thinks it was Kaboom, on Atari. That, or Missile Command. The only problem was, I liked it when the cities blew up with Missile Command, so I usually let the bombs strike the city.

I was only 2, it was all we had, so I didn't really love or hate either one. We couldn't afford any other video games, aside from Pong and some sort of math race car thing. Outside of the X-Men and Ninja Turtles arcade games and (I think) Street Fighter as an arcade game, those are really the only ones I've ever played.
