The Fog Rolls In
Jan. 11th, 2012 07:57 amWell, this morning’s off to a strange start. We have some extremely dense fog going on, with no visibility. Mom didn’t know this when she left, since it hadn’t really hit our street at that second. So she went to church to walk. And the fog rolled in, and settled in for a long stay.
So on the way back, she couldn't see where she was going. Missed her turn, and kept going. So turned around to come back, turned at the wrong spot--and went off into a ditch near the one area with a tree, next to a golf course.
And suddenly within less than a minute, people (who shouldn't have been able to see her!) pop in, asking what she needs. First, a guy stopped and told her to get out of the car and further off the road, since someone might hit her. Then, a woman stopped, and said she was sorry, she didn’t have a rope to pull the car out of the ditch, but she’d stay with them. Then, a man stopped by and said he had a rope in his pick-up. They shouted “come on over!” Then, Mom phoned Dad.
Whoever the last guy was--Mom never got his name, and he vanished into the fog as Dad made it to her--he dragged her car out of the ditch. Dad arrived in his giant van. And chickened out, saying the fog was too thick to drive back. Mom wasn't about to drive again today, so she got him to drive the smaller car for her, back.
They'll be back for the van some other time, once the fog has lifted.
