In the end, we ended up 0.5 inches of ice/sleet/freezing rain—that’s in the Lone Oak area. The rest of Paducah ended up with a bit more, but I don’t know the exact number yet. On top of that was 6 inches of snow. It’s better than Illinois, where I heard that Mount Vernon ended up with 15 inches of now, and much, much more ice.

The power did not go out where I was. The roads are treacherous, though, and getting back over here from the other house was interesting.   The ramp down to the driveway over there is icy, but it can be managed with the things you strap over your shoes to keep traction.   Some ice messed with the exhaust pipe, I smelled fumes, and Dad and I had to make it back over with the windows open.

The roads are pure sheets of ice, and various other people have been spinning out of control. Presumably, someone losing control is what happened to the mailbox over here, since it’s leaning strangely.

For the curious, since all of Paducah ground to a halt from the ice (you couldn’t salt the roads before the snow hit, due to the freezing rain—it would have washed it all away before it became sleet; also, at least one salt truck toppled over on Husbands Road due to slickness) my doctor’s appointment was cancelled yesterday. I will be rescheduling sometime next week.

We’re due for another round of something on Sunday. Maybe. The local news isn’t sure if it’s here, Illinois, or not at all—or if it’s ice or snow. Best wishes to anyone else in any state that is affected by this mess.

Just stumbled across this, now that I've been able to look through what I missed due to the ice: The Holiday Love Meme 2013.  My thread is here.
