It's finally here. Bethesda Game Studios has announced the launch of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

The highly-anticipated remake of the classic RPG from 2006 was developed by Singapore-based game developer, Virtuos Studios, which has gained popularity for co-developing remakes such as
Age of Mythology: Retold, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Interestingly, the developers opted to use the Unreal Engine 5 to render the graphics in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. Gamers can explore the world of Tamriel with enhanced visuals, improved lighting, new character models, landscapes, new animations, additional voiced lines for NPCs, redesigned interface, new menus, etc.

Naturally, such graphical enhancements come at a cost. Here are the minimum system requirements that your PC will need to run the game.

  • A 64-bit processor and operating system
  • Windows 10 version 21H1 (10.0.19043)
  • AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K CPU
  • 16 GB RAM
  • AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti GPU
  • DirectX 12
  • 125 GB of SSD storage

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available in two editions: a Standard Edition which is priced at $50 and contains all the story expansions, and a Deluxe Edition at $60 that includes some additional content, some cosmetic. Oblivion Remastered is currently available on PC on Steam and Microsoft Store, the Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

While fans of the game have been celebrating the return to Cyrodiil, not everyone seems to be pleased with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. Many users have observed that the performance of the game is rather poor even on mid and high-end graphics cards, with several players have pointed the finger of blame at Unreal Engine 5 as the reason why the game is unoptimized.

Apple has made an important change to its web page that advertises Apple Intelligence features. The page no longer says that the AI-powered tech is "available now".

The reason why this happened is that the U.S. National Advertising Division directed Apple to either modify the claim, or remove it entirely. Apple has drawn criticism from fans and experts for failing to deliver on its promises. When it launched the iPhone 16, the company had showcased many AI-features such as Priority Notifications, Genmoji, Image Playground, and a ChatGPT. As The Verge reports, Apple's web page carried a footnote that explained that some features were not yet available, or yet to roll out.

However, this was not enough to educate buyers, who eagerly purchased the new phones to use Apple Intelligence. This even led to Apple being sued for false advertising, because the company kept displaying advertisements about the AI features which were clearly not available. Apple had released some AI features like the writing tools and some image editing options last year. But priority notifications were not available until iOS 18.4 was released last month.

The NAD, whose job is to review advertising campaigns for truthfulness, were hardly impressed by these ads. It stated that the footnotes that Apple attached to its web page were neither sufficiently clear and conspicuous nor close to the triggering claims. The agency believed that the listing misled people who believed the features were available at launch. It instructed Apple to discontinue the ad campaign or modify it accordingly. In a press response, Apple said that it disagrees with the NAD's findings, as the features are available now. But, regardless of that, the company has complied with the recommendations on March 29, 2025, to edit the Apple Intelligence listing and remove the words "available now" under the Siri enhancements. It has even removed a video that highlighted some of the features. Apple has also modified its other promotional materials to reflect the current status of Apple Intelligence.

Users are unlikely to be satisfied by these changes, since they have been waiting for the artificial intelligence features to arrive for several months. And there is still no word from Apple on when it would make the features available. It is also worth noting that Apple had only released Apple Intelligence in the U.S. and select countries last year, and only launched them in more regions about a month ago.

I'm sorry I'm probably majorly late to the party but i needed to say. This movie is a giant pile of shit. How is it rated 6.5 on imdb. So many moments made no sense or were just lame why did no one stop him riding past 5000 soldiers. Denzel was good as a puppet master I will give the movie that. But sharks and monkey fights it's like my 6 year old wrote this. I know this isn't the place for this sort of rant but I need to vent.

We never really talked about it but The Ugly Ducking that grew up to be a beautiful swan was still probably pretty fugly from a duck’s perspective

Like that story isn’t about an ugly duckling that grew up sexy, it’s a fucking swan was judged as a duck and hated itself as a duck until it found out it wasn’t a duck and stopped trying to be a duck.

The actual ducks in the neighborhood were probably still looking around at perfectly normal swans like “damn, look at those busted ass ducks”

This is pretty important, actually. The good ending is finding the other swans, not tearing yourself to pieces trying to impress the ducks.

although a lot of adaptations skip over this and sanitise it to the point where the message is apparently meant to read “you’ll be forgiven for being born wrong, if you turn out thin and white and pretty!” - there’s a lot going on in the original. For one thing, most adaptations present him as a wild animal, but the Ugly Duckling is born into captivity, into a society that mimics upper-class pretensions, which is why he’s declared ‘ugly’. His mother is loving and very generous at first - hatching him despite the inconvenient incubation period, and defending him firmly - but after the other domestic animals (including a higher-class dominant one) point out what a burden he is, she turns on her child. Previously, she genuinely appeared to like him.

And a thing that’s missed, while kid’s abridged adaptations miss out on the rest of the point, is that the Ugly Duckling decides he can’t live like this and leaves the farmyard; he goes into the wild himself. In the various passages in which people try to keep him as a pet, or a duck, it’s hammered home again and again that this does not make a good pet. there is nothing in him that suits being a domestic animal.

one of the particular parts that makes you go “sweet jesus, hans christian andersen” is where the wild geese rock up and are nice to the young swan, not quite recognising him as a swan but saying they’re pretty into whatever weird vibe he has (is this a sort of queer recognition thing? we are told, explicitly, that the wild geese are both male, and they definitely say “you’re so ugly it’s hot - come with us” - given HCA, it might be) and then they’re, you know, instantly shot dead. Because that’s what happens to wild geese. They like your vibe and try to take you with them, and even offer to teach you how to flirt - and then you see exactly what happens to them. And then every encounter from there, from the old woman who attempts to keep him - a very satirical and funny passage - to the young family who genuinely attempt to save his life (but he’s too fundamentally panicked and awkward to reciprocate their kindness, and explodes out of their house in a social catastrophe) the story hammers in: not only are you a terrible duck, but you just aren’t MEANT to live with people. You’re closer to the things they kill than the things they keep.

but yeah, adaptations miss this often: you have to go out into the wild to save your own life. you may die in the wild, and you WILL die where you are. nobody comes to save you - and nobody really could have, when you were younger - but ultimately, mate, you just aren’t a very good pet. Of the list of “attributes of a domestic animal” you really suck, in detail, at all of them.

so it’s very telling to me that the good ending is the one where he is a wild animal - but more importantly, a WILD SWAN.

Not killed. (like a wild goose).

Not kept. (like a duck).

but a secret third thing, that swans - of few creatures - get. they get admired and they get paid and they get LEFT ALONE. they have a position in relation to humanity, and it is BEING A LOVELY SWAN OVER THERE.

what a thing for a lonely heart to yearn for!

terrorofstars:

this is a fan translators appreciation post!!

they are really doing the Work for nothing but the love of the story. paid not a penny, trying not to get caught, often dealing with niche genre or cultural nuance that they still manage to convey so cleverly. the time, energy, and dedication that goes into that. all so people can experience a story they enjoyed. oughhhh owe them my life. so many stories I’d never get to experience if not for fan translations!!

and you know what, they may not be the author, but you can still see their heart and soul in their translations. the care they put into crafting footnotes and linking art and providing updates.

to all fan translators around the world, even if you didn’t finish translating the work: THANK YOU 🥹💚

Hey! I I I finished The Last Days of Jack Sparks and I I I loved it so much!!! It had three of my my my (ok, I'll stop) favorite horror tropes - exorcisms, cursed media, and that eerie "this feels like it's based on true events" vibe. It genuinely terrified me, but it was such a treat. <3
I have a few questions, though: (SPOILERS BELOW)

  1. Why Adramelech, Mephistopheles, and Baphomet specifically? I guess I didn’t understand or maybe missed the explanation.
  2. The paranormal group naming their project Mimi is explained, but then they name the husband Ivan and that gave me the spooks because Maria (Mimi) and Ivan are the most common female and male names in my country (Bulgaria). Does anyone know if that’s just a coincidence? Obviously Maria is a popular name in other countries too, but the combo with Ivan specifically gave me chills, hhaha.
  3. Has anyone checked the Jack Sparks site? It’s linked at the end of the book, but I’m too chicken shit to check it out, so I was wondering if someone braver can tell me what’s on there.

Thank you so much!!!

The Department of Justice's ongoing antitrust trial against Google took a surprise turn. The DoJ had asked Nick Turley, OpenAI's ChatGPT chief, to testify, and he confirmed that the company is willing to purchase Chrome from Google, if a court mandates the sale of the browser.

Google was found guilty of creating and maintaining an illegal monopoly in the search industry. Last year, the DoJ proposed some remedies, it wants Google to sell its Chrome browser, and its operating system, Android, to a third party to rectify the situation, and to make the market more competitive.

According to a report by Bloomberg, this is what happened in a court hearing on Tuesday. When asked if OpenAI would be interested in buying Chrome, Turley replied “Yes, we would, as would many other parties”. He also explained that OpenAI could offer a really incredible experience if ChatGPT was integrated into Chrome. The company views this as an opportunity to introduce users into what an AI first experience would look like.

Though it has partnered with Apple to distribute ChatGPT on iPhone, OpenAI has faced some issues with distributing its AI on Android smartphones. Google on the other hand has been remarkably successful, but this too was achieved via partnerships. A Google executive had acknowledged that the company had begun paying Samsung in January, as part of a 2-year agreement, to pre-install its Gemini AI app on Galaxy smartphones. OpenAI had not been successful in its own attempts to negotiate a similar deal. Google had argued that such partnerships enhanced user experiences.

Turley admitted that there are concerns that OpenAI could be shut out of the market by Google and other bigger companies who control access points that determine how people discover products, e.g. through an app store, or a browser. He also noted that user choice is restricted due to such limitations, and stated that real choice drives competition.

As the trial unfolds, experts anticipate potential shifts in multibillion-dollar market dynamics, with significant implications for how consumers interact with Google’s services. Though Google stands firm on its position of having a user-friendly ecosystem, the court's decisions in the upcoming weeks could reshape the landscape of tech competition as we know it.

Some people are concerned about the outcome. If OpenAI owns Chrome, and uses it to fuel its own AI interests, that could create a new monopoly.
