Hurricane Katrina Related
Sep. 1st, 2005 11:52 amDad finally was able to reach family in Louisiana. The hurricane did not destroy everything where they were, thankfully. The only problem was the phone was out for about a couple of days. (Explains why Dad couldn't reach them for 2 days.)
Also: Apparently, one of their local Wal-Marts has been turned into a shelter for 9,000 refugees. And a local school is doing the same for a few hundred in their gymnasium down there. According to her, a lot of kids are being accepted into the school systems--despite the fact that they don't have school records for them. Of course they don't--everything was destroyed.
