Currently, we've had one brief (10 seconds) power outage, with flickers every so often. My aunt's lost power entirely, and they're having to use a kerosene heater for the moment. While we still have power, Mom started washing clothes.

Every so often, sheets of ice fall off the roof. At some point, it looks like a huge tree limb (at a neighbor's house--she's out of town, I believe) across the street split because of the ice, and is half broken off and half not. There's also another half a tree laying in her driveway.

Every so often, I hear a creaking noise--it's a tree limb from the tree just to the side of my room. From what I can tell, that one limb is now touching the ground, but it's not broken off. Because the ground is pure ice, nobody's willing to risk going out and looking.

Keep in mind this is before the next wave, where we get snow, and lot more ice. Apparently, customers of Paducah Power that don't have power right now number in the thousands, because four grids fried, or something along those lines. Mom said that's the company we use, so we have our fingers crossed.

ETA: Another tree limb is in mid-break, and is about to take out Dad's van. A neighbor warned us, so Dad's on the way out there to try to move it.

While I still have power and internet, just thought I would mention this. The tree in the front yard just now pretty much split in half at the top because of the weight of the ice.

The entire yard is basically littered with broken limbs at this point.

ETA: Ha! We got a con man (he really did look incredibly shifty) knocking at the door, saying he could come by after this was over and drag it away if he got paid now. Dad shut the door in his face.

Well...that was traumatic. I no longer need to worry about the tree next to my room. It just fell over completely, rammed slightly against the wall, and crashed to the ground. It didn't crash through the window, because of the stuff we have on it. If it had, from what we can tell, the thick curtains and aluminum foil on the window (don't ask, I don't remember why it's there anymore) would have saved me if it had.

The bush where the cat sleeps will no longer be used. It's gone. So's another bush. From what we can tell (it's dark outside) it's slightly on the roof, but mostly off.

Just so you know, I was at the computer reading something on Teaspoon when it did it. I think I'll be sleeping in a different room tonight...

Edit: Yeah, that icon pretty much sums things up. When I ran out of my room, the cat ran in. She apparently wanted to see what happened.
