Dark Shadows--The 1991 Version
Feb. 17th, 2009 10:02 amI’ve been watching some downloads of the revival series of Dark Shadows,(the one from 1991) and while watching the second episode of the series from about the 15 minute mark, I thought that I had somehow seen it before. From when little David Collins is standing by an abandoned swimming pool after Daphne’s been buried, and is throwing a ball at the steps, and chanting “If I catch this one, Daphne isn’t deaaaddddd!” over and over again. Naturally, Daphne came for him. From there, until Daphne is surrounded by police and staked, while Joe screams, it was incredibly familiar.
And I finally figured out why. It’s a direct lift scene for scene from House of Dark Shadows. Just with Daphne replacing the vampire version of Carolyn. I checked Youtube, and all I could find of House of Dark Shadows (which I once had on VHS, until it melted in the garage) was this trailer. The Carolyn scene is in there, from around the 28 second mark to the 41 second mark. The Daphne scene is here, around 7:53 in, until 9:05. Unfortunately, David’s little chant isn’t included, since it’s apparently just short clips from the episode. Joe is played by Jared from The Pretender. Daphne was Sue Storm in the Roger Corman Fantastic Four.
Some random trivia: at some point, when Victoria goes to the 1700’s, one of the characters she meets is Jeremiah Collins--played by Adrian Paul. You can see a funny scene of his here, which really does feel like a flashback from Highlander. Reportedly, if Dark Shadows hadn’t been canceled, he would have gone on to play Quentin Collins. So he would never have been cast as Duncan Macleod on Highlander.
(I'm surprised I don't have any icons from Dark Shadows.)
