In honor of Halloween, I’m tracking down schedules for what channels are doing for the holiday. So follow the links for those that are interested. For those that can get the channel (I can’t) on their cable provider, Turner Classic Movies (in the US and Canada) will be showing some Hammer horror films for the month of October. Here is a full listing of their horror schedule for the month.

ABC Family’s 13 Nights of Halloween schedule is here.

Halloween Shows.Net has the Halloween themed listings for Syfy.

Oct 31st is a good site to keep track of Halloween specials as they come up in the schedule. I’ve made a syndicated feed for them at [livejournal.com profile] oct31storg. TV Tango should have something comprehensive up soon, going by last year’s post. For them, the syndicated feed is [livejournal.com profile] tvtango.

10 Delightfully Hammy Villain Performances. The list includes Khan, The Kurgan, and General Zod. I would have added (and I see someone in the comments did) Richard Roxburgh as Dracula in Van Helsing.

NBC is doing a “edgier and slightly darker” remake of The Munsters. Bryan Fuller is involved.

August 28th is International Read Comics In Public Day.

Justin Lin has bowed out of directing the Highlander remake.

Promo for the next episode of Torchwood.

For those interested, Rifftrax Live: Jack The Giant Killer happens this Wednesday.

Found a ton of Carey Mulligan icons thanks to [personal profile] mackinzie: —just putting the link here, for whenever I have enough room and need to find the link quickly. Quite a number of those expressions are great for Meggan. She could just be having a brunette day.

ETA: Seems as though Insanejournal is having a slight problem right now, so give them a little while. Luckily, I saved most of the ones I could someday use to LJ Scrapbook before that happened, so you can view them under this made by whimsies tag until they come back up.

Yesterday was weird. Two cats (one a kitten, both strays) were trapped on the roof of Nellie’s house while birds kept dive bombing them from a nearby branch. Eventually, after an hour or so they fell off the roof, got up, and ran away. Meanwhile, she had just buried another cat (also a stray) that had waited for her to walk outside so that it could die at her feet. Third this month to do it that way, she says, presumably thanks to the heat. She’s dealing with enough, having just been diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer, and likely 6-9 months left.

While this was going on, and Dad was watching (and considering getting a net, to which Nellie rolled her eyes, explaining they do this all the time, but few notice) to see if he could catch the kitten, a rabbit hopped up beside him, and watched him watching the cats. Completely unafraid. While that was all going on, Toby escaped, and ran in circles in the road until I eventually got him back to his house before he could eat a falling cat.

The first full trailer for Captain America.

The 10 Most Watchable MST3K Movies. I can confirm that Jack Frost is strangely good, even without MST3K providing jokes. As a sidenote, I believe that was also the first episode I ever caught on the Sci-Fi Channel, when they were mostly just showing the final season over and over and over again.

A sequel to the reboot of Spider-Man is already in the works.

Juno Temple has joined the cast of The Dark Knight Rises.

From Tor: 7 Science Fiction TV Shows We Barely Remember. I may have been one of the only people that actually watched Homeboys In Outer Space. I’m so sorry.

Fringe has been renewed for a fourth season.

17 small-screen cartoon spin-offs from science fiction franchises. The Back to the Future cartoon makes the list, as does Real Ghostbusters/Extreme Ghostbusters, Doctor Who: The Infinite Quest, and Highlander—both the anime, and the cartoon with Quentin Macleod, set in the future.

Michael Gough has passed away at the age of 94. He may be best remembered in the role of Alfred in Tim Burton movies, as well as Batman Forever and Batman And Robin. He was also in Classic Doctor Who as both the Celestial Toymaker, as well as Councillor Hedin. I also remember that he played Arthur in Hammer’s Horror of Dracula. May he rest in peace.

8 Mostly Forgotten 90’s Cartoons. I remember Road Rovers and The Mighty Ducks. With the latter, I don’t believe I watched it—I think I watched an ABC special telling what new shows would be airing on Fridays and Saturdays, and that was one of them.

Geoff Johns thinks the Sandman series is happening after all. Given the fact the news was that it was not going forward just the other day, make of that what you will.

The Rifftrax of Highlander is now available.

Eva Green says Dark Shadows will take place in the 70’s. Angelique is also American now, therefore not originating from Martinique. And, again, the script is referred to as funny, which doesn’t seem to bode well.

14 Great But Lesser-Known Sci-Fi Novels For Lil' Nerds. Who else remembers My Teacher Is An Alien?

Do you remember the unaired pilot for Dark Shadows, from 2004? A short clip has surfaced.

Topless Robot is having a contest where you describe the worst RPG character you ever played or encountered. It looks to be mostly Dungeons and Dragons and World of Warcraft, neither of which I’ve never played. I didn’t start playing in any RPG’s until 2004, so I don’t really have any stories.

One of the next movies to get the Rifftrax treatment will be Highlander. I look forward to that.

Ducktales: An Epic History.

You can now claim prompts for [community profile] dark_fest, over here.

There was a time back in 1994 when Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel asked if someone could explain “what an internet was.” In the fall of 1994, I was just starting 9th grade and high school. I would have just turned 14, and I didn’t have a computer at home yet until a few months later--until then, back in middle school the most I really did with a computer at school was the occasional search, Oregon Trail, and Carmen Sandiego. And learning how to draw a circle in Microsoft Paint. In the dark, because of the teacher freaking out over power consumption, but that's a whole other story. And I still knew what @ meant. Mom says even she knew what @ meant back then.

Funny Sidenote: In 9th grade, I had my first typing class. We only had typewriters, and couldn’t afford computers until 10th grade. I discovered dial-up soon after.

Vh1 is showing Ghostbusters right now, starting at 4:30 PM CST. And it looks as though they are airing the Blu-Ray version. They aired the same version last night, too. Everything’s crisp and bright. When the Terror Dog’s eyes glow, it’s a much brighter red than other airings. The lightning is brighter. When the containment unit blows, it’s not as faded as in previous viewings. Someday, when I can afford a Blu-Ray player, I must buy this version.

I edited my offering for the auction at [profile] qldfloodauction just a little bit, to include these fandoms that I'm willing to write: The Librarian, Highlander: The Series, Merlin, Buffy, and Angel. Willing to completely ignore Highlander: The Source for the sake of everyone's sanity. If it hadn’t been so long since I had seen an episode of Xena, I would have included that. Would anyone actually want to see Mr. Boogedy fanfic? If so, I can throw add that into the mix, too.

From Cracked: 5 Absurd Ways Comic Books Have Resurrected Dead Superheroes. Years after the Clone Saga had ended, I thought maybe I should see what was going on in the Spider-Man comics. #5 on the list is the first thing I picked up. Yes, I ran far, far away from Spider-Man. Let us not speak of the Goblin babies (which was my next attempt).

Lost Girl: I’m up to episode 6 of the series now. It’s not something that I’m obsessed with, and it is extremely corny but I do like the premise. Given that I am occasionally obsessed with legends and folklore from around the world, I do enjoy seeing the way they write the different kinds of fae.

The preliminary list of all the eligible fandoms for Yuletide has been posted. Yuletide sign-ups open later this week. I’m slowly going through the list—adding all the fandoms I might be able to do to a Word document. I’m amused that the Buffy movie is eligible this year, and very happy that The Curse of Fatal Death made the cut. Justice League International apparently wasn’t eligible, which I can understand.

By the way, does anyone on my friends list know if a UK series called Lost Girl worth watching? I just located a few episodes, and wondered.

The director of The Fast and the Furious will be doing the Highlander remake.

NBC has renewed Days of Our Lives for another 2 years.

Peter Wingfield answers eleven Highlander questions from fans over at Io9.

There’s a new Merlin trailer, and you can watch it here.

Runaways should begin filming in March 2011.

Neil Gaiman’s Sandman is being developed for television…unfortunately, without Neil Gaiman.

The first pictures of David Tennant as Peter Vincent in Fright Night have been released. Is it just me, or does he resemble Chris Angel, mixed with a little bit of Russell Brand?

The designs for the Back to the Future game have been released. Christopher Lloyd will be doing the voice for Doc in the game.

This Ghostbusters item would have to be the best response to LJ’s drama. [personal profile] 51stcenturyfox tells how to remove the little Twitter and Facebook checkboxes from your journal—but it only works if you are in S2. Here is a poll where you can let LJ know what you think of the cross-posting features.

I’ll probably start a poll later, just asking for people’s Insanejournal or Dreamwidth usernames. I never cross-post at the latter, and once in a blue moon (and mostly for finding icons, which I keep track of via Memories) use the former, but I’d like to try to keep track of everyone.
