Macmillan will sell e-books to libraries in pilot program at $25 per title

How Was SFSketchFest/Best of RiffTrax? I managed to go to the Manos screening. Due to an awful movie (one of the Wayans brothers spoofing the Paranormal Activity franchise—I walked in during what seemed to be the guy being jealous as he watched someone loudly having sex with a ghost; not being interested in watching this moment with Dad, we turned and left, opting to stay in the hall until it finished) running too long, Rifftrax wouldn’t have had time for the trivia/joke cards at the start. So the manager let everyone vote—we decided even if it went overly long, we wanted it. Things were fine, until midway through one of the shorts—the power in the whole theater went out. 5-10 minutes later, it came back, and we started where we left off. Someone that had been there for the previous showing (and its interruption by tornado and power outage) said it had happened at that same point, too. The manager (who also personally went in and cleaned up after the previous viewing of that movie) came in and apologized.

Unfortunately, the heat didn’t come back on. Instead, about 20 minutes before the end, the air conditioning was going full blast—so I had my coat on. Got out around 9:45 PM, and made it home shortly before the sleet (which the Weather Channel has dubbed Winter Storm Khan—feel free to insert your own Kirk scream here) started. Outside of all of that, I have to say it was great.

I need to find out if Dark Shadows (60’s version—since I know the 90’s version is on Youtube, but it wasn’t nominated), Pushing Daisies, and Real Ghostbusters are available online for viewing, so I can brush up on canon—been a while since I watched those.

According to a couple people Mom just checked with in our area, the Comcast issue isn’t just us. And it’s being done in such a way that everyone affected will believe it’s something wrong on their end, rather than Comcast’s. Another thing I plan to point out when (and if—they said if they don’t bother, we can get a $20 credit, which doesn’t help) they arrive on Saturday.

Science Fiction And Fantasy TV Shows That Were Ahead Of Their Time. The only one on that list that I’ve seen is Pushing Daisies, and that was a while after it was cancelled. I always avoided The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. as I always mixed it up with Chuck Norris’ series—Walker, Texas Ranger.

Thanks to a recent Kindertrauma post about Witchery (aka Witchcraft, aka La Casa 4), I stumbled across this old format for Prevue Guide (which would eventually morph into the TV Guide Channel). From 1991. That would be back before anyone except Memphis (at least around this area) really had that channel, so I only ever saw it when we stayed at a hotel there for my sister’s eye doctor appointments. Strangely enough, I saw this exact one—makes sense, I probably would have been there watching June of 1991.

Dreamwidth is allowing account creation without an invite code for the rest of the year. If anyone wants to find me over there, my username is the same there as it is here. I just don’t cross-post all that often, save when LJ’s down. When it comes to LJ’s alterations, the larger font style will take some getting used to. I rarely used subject lines in comments, outside of Yuletide, certain memes, and the occasional auction. I can see the icon selection bit being a problem for those on dial-up. The part where you can make everything go to unthreaded at the same time is good. I like the bit where it tells what comments are new since you last visited.

ETA: The tags being moved to the bottom of the page will also take some getting used to.

I went back into my Yuletide sign-up a little while ago, and in the Bucket List tacked on Clue (1985). I debated whether or not to throw in Snow White And The Huntsman since we’ve only got a trailer and nothing else until 2012, before deciding to add it. As a reminder for anyone planning to sign-up, Yuletide sign-ups close Sunday, at 7 PM CST. I predict at least one more bout of editing for me before they close, since that’s how things go.

The trailer for the Christmas episode of Doctor Who was released—the title is The Doctor, The Widow, and the Wardrobe. Matt Smith appears as the Doctor on Children In Need, offers the clothes he’s wearing at that moment to charity.

I nominated My Best Friend Is A Vampire, The Librarian movies, and Fright Night (1985), so I could include Peter Vincent and Charley Brewster. A couple of people chose to celebrate their Halloween as Ghostbusters characters: Vinz Clortho the Keymaster, and Zuul the Gatekeeper. Very nice.

Top 31 Horror Comedies. I would add High Spirits, but that’s really more of a personal preference. Plus, Big Trouble In Little China, and Saturday the 14th.

Jezebel lists The Best Halloween Specials Ever. Including the Garfield Halloween Special, Halloween Is Grinch Night, Marc Summers’ Magical Mystery Tour, The Worst Witch, that episode of Salute Your Shorts with Zeke The Plumber, Buffy’s Fear Itself, and many others.

In the end, we had a grand total of 9 trick-or-treaters last night, with the final three popping in around 7:30 PM. They forgot to wear costumes. So the only costumes I spotted last night were a little boy that was Satan, and a little girl that was a Crayola crayon.
