calliopes_pen: (sallymn dark and stormy story)
If anyone happens to have any Yuletide fic recs in the Gothic Horror or Gothic Romance genre now that the archive is open, we’re open to accepting them at [community profile] hidden_passages. Specifically, they can go in this post; kudos to [personal profile] damzel for thinking to post it. I saw plenty of the right type in the archive, but haven’t had a chance to dig through them all.

Is anyone else having issues when it comes to editing their Yuletide sign-up? I wanted to add a couple of other fandoms in there, as well as more characters I was willing to write in another. However, when I tell it to save, I end up with an error. “502 Bad Gateway. The server returned an invalid or incomplete response.”

It’s like that in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. The only workaround I’ve come up with at the moment is jotting down everything I already have, and that I wanted to add, deleting the current sign-up, and doing another sign-up form with the corrected content. I just worried I would end up with that error again.

Speaking of Yuletide, [personal profile] damzel had the idea of gathering together a list of the gothic horror/gothic romance fandoms that were nominated this year. That’s currently unofficially underway at [community profile] hidden_passages. If there are any that were missed, (I’m certain there must be) feel free to add them there.

Don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers for yesterday’s episode of Doctor Who. Well, today’s for me, since I had a severe migraine (and accompanying nausea related extras*) at the time it was streaming yesterday, and onwards through when it would have aired on BBC America.

I kept thinking that David Suchet looked very familiar, and that it wasn’t just due to the role as Hercule Poirot (which I’ve never seen, aside from the occasional promo on either KET or PBS). It turns out he played Van Helsing in Dracula (2006).

While it isn't a particularly good adaptation, it had one of the better castings I've seen for Lucy Westenra in Sophia Myles. I watched it for the first time a couple months ago.

*I would have posted a 'this community is open' for [community profile] hidden_passages yesterday, if not for the migraine. I'll get on that now. I'm torn between three layouts for it, but I'm currently going with Amaranth in Librarian's Dream (the other two are Touch in Dusty Foot, and Pigeon Blue in Librarian's Dream).

Going through all of the layout themes, Elementary Smoke is almost perfect (aside from the Sherlock Holmes silhouette, which is not quite right for this scenario) for a community dedicated to gothic horror. I just quickly previewed it with my regular journal to see how it handles text. It looks like it would stretch out the text of every post, so I’ll keep working on finding a good option.

Winterborn, Lavender with the base style of Basic Boxes (for purple prose, as the icon I'm using points out), or Touch in Dusty Foot’s style might work better.

Thank you to everyone who voted! [community profile] hidden_passages won the poll with 15 votes; I’m working on the little particulars at the moment. Bear with me as I try to eventually change the layout’s style (some were too brightly colored, while others were too dark to see the text) to something more suitable, and add to the interests section. I have transferred an icon I use over there, just so there's something.

I may eventually be in need of a co-mod. Do I have any volunteers?
