Thanks to this recent post over at whatwasthatone, I’ve managed to track down that I was looking for, too. Long ago, I watched something that involved a shadow of a good guy being sliced across the back by an evil shadow. Now that someone else has asked, and discovered what it was, I know the answer, too. A very short animated special from 1981, called Faeries. I can only assume I found a VHS of it…or that I saw it when I was just a few months old.

I found out that Joshua Wyles Photography took pictures of all the zombies in the Zombie Walk. This is Zombie Bruce Campbell/Ash, complete with chainsaw on hand, boomstick (which can’t be seen) and fake strap-on chin. Another angle, where you can see part of his gun. Pictures of everyone in the Zombie Walk are here. Thankfully, I don’t need an account to see any of this.

Last night, we had a grand total of three trick-or-treaters. We had the door open (and the lights on once it got dark) from 3 PM, until 8 PM. We didn’t get anyone until 7:05 PM, and that was all we ended up getting. It was two kids, and their mother said to count the baby in her arms since she had gone to all the trouble of dressing it like a pumpkin. We have a huge bowl of candy left over, which will soon be given to my uncle. It might take him a few months to get through it.

How many trick-or-treaters did everyone else get? Our numbers were low because downtown Paducah was roped off for trick-or-treaters—they were expecting 2,000. That, and three or four Trunk or Treats being done, along with a fall festival at another church means low numbers for everyone else.

Oh, yes. I love the history of it. So much so that I wrote a research paper on the topic in college. I celebrate through Zombie Walks, giving candy to whatever trick-or-treaters we might get, and watching as many horror movies as I can. What I like the least? Probably the fact that we don't get trick-or-treaters anymore, and they don't show the older horror movies as much anymore. The lower number of trick-or-treaters is due to Trunk-or-Treat being held at various churches in the area, including my own.

My horror marathon today? I watched Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn for the first time, thanks to AMC showing it--it appeared to be uncut. I liked it. This was followed by me watching the first Halloween movie for the first time, also thanks to AMC. I located a Rifftrax of that, so I’ll give it another viewing later. I have a copy of Snow White: A Tale of Terror, so I’ll be watching that, along with The Oblong Box and The Haunted History of Halloween. And whatever else might be airing, or is free through On Demand.

AMC has a few older horror movies on their website, so I’ll see which ones I want to watch from that. Probably Werewolves on Wheels.

A&E shows Ghostbusters around 11 AM today, so that’s part of my marathon. The Hallmark Channel is doing a Munsters and Addams Family (the tv series) marathon, so I’ll be going back to that on occasion. Yesterday, I watched Urban Legend and They Live for the first time. I started to watch Shaun of the Dead, but realized it was time for the Zombie Walk.

Which reminds me—there was a Zombie Ash spotted in the Zombie Walk. He had his “boomstick” strapped to his back, a chainsaw hooked to his hand, and cuts in various spots just like in Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. It also looked like the same shirt. I almost applauded. I hope he won the costume contest at Whaler’s Catch when they got there.

There were around 200 people there. They started 20 minutes late, and were only on one side of the street this year. Nellie’s grown daughter—Donna--showed up. She went to the side of the street with the zombies to get a better view, and one gave her a finger. No, not that one. A plastic severed finger in a baggie. Severed body parts for everyone, I guess. There was also a zombie being pulled along in a wagon. Turned out it was to get a better view to film them all.

There was one lone Dracula in the midst of the zombies. He looked amused.

Oh, and on the way to the Zombie Walk? We briefly got stuck behind an ice cream truck. A few kids were near it, looking confused--it's a little cool out for ice cream. And what was the truck playing? Silent Night. After a few moments, it drove off.

I finally found the episodes of Days of Our Lives that recapped Marlena’s possession. I always thought it was immediately following the battle in the morgue—but no, it was right before that. It's the episode where John discusses everything that happened with a priest. If you’re interested in watching that one, start at Possession 169 and continue watching until midway through Possession 173.

Remember how Tim Burton was supposed to do a version of Superman back in the 90’s? This is what almost happened when it comes to the costume.

While I had heard of what occurs in the end credits with reshowing a certain moment? I always thought it was only once or twice, and not 16 times.

Saturday is the Zombie Walk. I might go to the seminar for surviving a zombie attack 30 minutes before that.

Andy Serkis will be in The Hobbit, even though he hasn’t officially signed up yet. Meanwhile, The Hobbit will be allowed to film in New Zealand after all, if they wish to do so.

GK Films is attempting to turn the Thriller music video into a 90 minute movie. I would much rather just stick with original—since that, at least, has Vincent Price’s voice.

Three bits of information have been released in regard to the third Batman movie. The title will be The Dark Knight Rises, and the villain will not be The Riddler. And some very good news—the movie won’t be 3D.

Due to constant interruptions because of bad weather, I missed almost everything with the cast of Back to the Future being on The Today Show. There was a moment where I heard that the DeLorean was almost a refrigerator, but that’s all I caught.

Also? Thanks to a post by cinemassacre, I found out that Rifftrax Live is doing the original House on Haunted Hill on October 28th. Normally, that sort of thing doesn’t show up in the theaters around here. For once? It will be at a theater near the mall at 7 PM. So now I’m trying to decide if I want to go see that, too. I love Vincent Price movies, and I like the Rifftrax guys.

Peter Jackson has officially announced that Martin Freeman will be Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit—which hopefully means the movie is nearing the end of its stint in development hell. Martin Freeman was great as John Watson in Sherlock and Arthur Dent in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so I suspect he’ll do well in this. Also cast in supporting roles? Richard Armitage (from Robin Hood) will play the leader of the dwarves, while Aidan Turner (Mitchell from Being Human) will be someone in the Company of Dwarves. And thus, my friends list exploded all over everything.

Rumored names that have been floating around, and have yet to be confirmed or denied include: Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, David Tennant, Saoirse Ronan, and James Nesbitt. The first two are more than likely to happen.

10 Things Den of Geek Loves About Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead. The only movie in that trilogy that I’ve ever seen is Army of Darkness. It was my first R movie when I was 11, and I’ll probably always love the insanity of it. Because of what I've heard about the tree scene in the first one, and certain things involving eyeballs being flung in the second, I might not ever watch those two.

Elvira spoofs the “I’m not a witch” commercial. Sadly, none of the channels around here are showing her revival of Elvira’s Movie Macabre.

I just found out that Maiden Alley Cinema will be showing one horror movie this year. On October 29th and 30th, they will be showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now, every other year, it’s been shown around 11 PM. This year? On the 29th, it’s at 9 PM, and the 30th, it’s being shown at 7 PM--so I might be able to go to that last one. So if things work out, I’ll be going to the Zombie Walk, followed by The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Which Dad knows nothing about, so I get to scar him for life.

Although, if I followed the Zombie Walk people to the restaurant they're headed for, I might catch a special showing of Dawn of the Dead in the meeting room. I just think they’re underestimating the number of people that will be squeezed in there. Last year, when Maiden Alley Cinema hosted it, they expected 20 or 30. What they got was probably 200 or 300. Since more people know about it this year, there will likely be more.

And 30 minutes before the Zombie Walk begins, there will be a seminar for learning how to survive a zombie attack.

ETA: Just changed my Yuletide fandom nominations again. Now, it's My Best Friend Is A Vampire, The Librarian series of movies, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Dark Shadows (1991), and the original Fright Night. Unfortunately, this causes Randall and Hopkirk (the 2000 version) to not be listed at all--so if someone wants to add that, you'll have to get it in there before 8 PM CST.

Yuletide fandom nominations continue until next Wednesday. As of the last time I checked, 3170 fandoms had been nominated so far.

Because I once watched an ad for the Talon Falls Haunted House over on Youtube, they recommended something to me that I didn’t really expect. What was it? A slideshow of the ice storm in February 2009. The background music is The Final Countdown, which...seems strangely fitting. I would have used Night on Bald Mountain, but it still works.

When you can just make out Cracker Barrel and Wal-Mart, that’s near the mall. Around the 3 minute mark, Mom thinks you can see Forest Hills, but it’s hard to tell. That’s a few blocks from our house. The rest I can’t really identify. Be sure to expand the description, since they go into detail on what was going on--as do a few comments.

For anyone that wonders how the trip to the haunted house went—not so well. However, having learned from last year, we smuggled in water, a couple granola bars in case we were trapped for a long time, and two flashlights. We should have packed extra shoes. Why?

WKYQ has their (constantly updated from what I can tell) list of local haunted houses up. Tonight, I’ll be going to a haunted house—The Haunted Barn. I tried to go last year, but couldn’t find it. So Dad and I drove out where it was supposed to be this year, and figured out why. We turned right last year, when we should have turned left. Due to that, we missed it entirely and were one street off.

On the 30th, I’ll go to the Zombie Walk, and try not to run over any trick-or-treaters or zombies. As of now, there’s no word on if Maiden Alley Cinema will be showing horror movies this year.
