I chose to default on the Bar ficathon story, since there was no way it would be entirely finished by tomorrow night. However, since amnesty begins for them one week after the due date and continues through when sign-ups end for the next round in 2017, I should be okay.

This gives me time to feel completely better (the vertigo appears to be contained, the whooshing is quieter and not as constant, the ringing isn’t piercing anymore, and there has been no recurrence of fever as of yet) and finish typing bits up that I have on a notepad, polish the end results a bit, and get it a good beta reading. I will probably give myself a new date of posting for end of May or the beginning of June.

The plot also seems to have grown a bit beyond what I intended it to be, as Angelique arrived on the scene and caused the horror to escalate. Since it's the 1991 version of the character, that's pretty much a given.

So yesterday, I was diagnosed with a ear infection in my left ear*. I have been prescribed antibiotics. Due to all the issues with the ear infection, we’ll see if I’m able to piece together** my Into A Bar story by the 7th. If I’m still not great day after tomorrow, then I’ll see about getting a message to the mods before the deadline and then posting it at AO3 when I’m better. Wish me luck.

I was also supposed to go to the dentist today, but given the situation, he’s (never mentioned on here, I don't think-—my old one retired at the end of March; someone else took over) rescheduled for when I’m better. Hopefully by the 12th.

*I'm getting a whooshing in that ear, ringing, pain, nausea--possibly a fever yesterday, but nobody thought to check until it broke. It was enough to recall the situation 3 years ago, and for me to know exactly what it was, and get to the doctor. I was right. They said there’s fluid, it’s very red, and it’s a definite inner ear infection. There was also a mysterious pain in my neck close to the ear a couple days before, and that seems to be where it originated.

**Before this? The story itself before I get everything fixed around it was at least at the current word count of 7525 words.

Well, that certainly took a dramatic turn. I was trying to write the Bar Ficathon story, and seem to have fallen over an actual plot, instead of just Edith and Victoria sitting in a bar talking about ghosts, with Alan wedged in there for his continued support. The Dark Shadows portion seems to be overwhelming the Crimson Peak part and traumatizing those characters, but that’s okay. They fit together nicely.

And there goes Angelique, still body hopping in 1991, seeking more vengeance and dropping revelations on people in an oddly disturbing moment for everyone that formed by accident. Alan and Edith just wanted a quiet night before they tried to get back to their own time. At least nobody will be falling off of Widows’ Hill? At least Edith doesn't have a Collins in her family tree?

While it was Ray Stantz who won the poll, I realized something about the fandom offering section. If I signed up for all of Dark Shadows (1991), then I would likely get someone I couldn’t write for—since after some thought, the only ones I could do were outnumbered by the ones I couldn’t.

Instead of completely throwing that fandom out, or risking someone else from the 1700’s that I couldn’t do, I switched the person walking into the bar to the extremely close second place winner of Victoria Winters. Which seems to be for the best, because I love my Ficathon Goes Into A Bar assignment.

Victoria Winters (1991 version) shall walk into a bar (The Blue Whale, of course) and meet...Edith Cushing, from Crimson Peak. Victoria’s fallen through time before, so she would be sympathetic. Both would understand seeing ghosts.

Alan McMichael may or may not trip and fall through time with Edith, just so she won't be alone in her confusion. That has yet to be decided.

It’s been a long time since I last signed up for the Ficathon Goes Into A Bar. The last time I did was 2010, and it ended up with the Tenth Doctor (before season 4 ended, I think) and Winston Zeddemore.

Now, I’m thinking of giving it another go—fandoms would be Fright Night (1985), Ghostbusters (1984), Crimson Peak (2015), and Dark Shadows (1991)—and I just can’t decide if the person that walks into that bar should be Raymond Stantz (imagine his glee upon discussion of vampires) or Alan McMichael (imagine his horror about more ghosts or even vampires) or Peter Vincent, or a very confused Victoria Winters from the 90’s version of Dark Shadows.

So I’m tossing a poll up here to help with the choice. Those on the Livejournal side, feel free to comment with your vote. Sign-ups end April 3rd, so I’ll have this poll run until Saturday.

I have now received my assignment for the [community profile] intoabar ficathon. The Tenth Doctor will walk into a bar and meet...Louis Tully. That’s bound to be one interesting meeting. And I feel like he would find a way to ask the Doctor who does his taxes at some point in the conversation. I’m just trying to decide if it would be better to set it after the first movie, or the second movie.

Zombie Walk related: I managed to find more footage of last year’s zombie walk. This time, it wasn’t in black and white, and I was able to confirm that the person in the jacket wasn’t me. It was someone in a green jacket, while mine was red. And I don’t wear bell bottom jeans.

San Diego Comic Con will not be moving anywherea new deal keeps it in San Diego through 2015.

[community profile] x_journal related: After a question of what each character's theme song would be, I started searching around to figure out what would actually be a good one for Meggan. And to that end, what sort of music would be more her style. I suspect she would like silly songs like YMCA, Rock Lobster, Macarena, Walk Like An Egyptian and Dancing Queen--but the main genres she would always go back to would be soothing like jazz, New Age, R&B, or indie pop. I still haven't decided what her song would be, but at least I know one or two (I barely know anything about music) singers she might like.

This week was Banned Books Week.

Stephen J. Cannell has passed away, due to complications from melanoma. May he rest in peace. He created or co-created many shows, including The Greatest American Hero and The A-Team. Have one last playing of Believe It Or Not for the road. I’ve heard that so many times thanks to it being The Cinema Snob’s theme song.

A very short teaser for the American remake of Being Human.

The 10 Most Stylish Means Of Time Travel. Doctor Who (in two spots) and Back to the Future (also with two spots) are listed.

It’s official—Heroes is completely dead, and not mostly dead. There will not be a tv movie.

James Cameron is trying to get True Lies turned into a tv series.

The people behind The Wicker Man (the one with Christopher Lee—not the one with Nicholas Cage in a bear suit, punching a woman in the face before eventually being attacked by bees) are working on a sequel: The Wicker Tree.

It’s time for sign-ups at [community profile] intoabar for the Walk Into A Bar Ficathon. The FAQ is here, and sign-ups are here. Last time around I was assigned the Tenth Doctor walking into a bar and meeting Winston Zeddemore.

This may be one of the stranger memes I’ve participated in. In the tradition of that “I’m on a horse” Old Spice commercial, comes a meme. You leave your username, and—according to the rules—“Other people will reply to your comment, either anonymously or non-anonymously, writing to you of your awesomeness in the style of the Old Spice Man.” The meme is here. My comment is here.

And because I used a Tenth Doctor icon, I briefly thought, “Your Time Lord is now diamonds! And a diamond is a white point star…” Mix of amusing and disturbing—all that’s missing is Rassilon in place of the Old Spice Guy.

ETA: Okay, the two replies that were just posted are hysterical. I laughed for at least a few minutes, so thank you.

The Walk Into A Bar Ficathon will be starting up again in a month or so.

Fandom: Doctor Who/Ghostbusters
Summary: The Tenth Doctor walks into a bar and meets Winston Zeddemore. A discussion of alien life versus the existence of ghosts soon follows, along with who has the weirdest life. Set the day after Ghostbusters II for Winston, mid-season 4 for the Doctor.
Word Count: 3540
Author’s Notes: This was written for the Walk Into A Bar Ficathon. My assignment was the Tenth Doctor meeting Winston Zeddemore. Thanks to [personal profile] seandc and [personal profile] persiflage_1 for beta reading. There’s a blink and you’ll miss it cameo from Louis Tully, as well as that mink coat monster thing. Because the Doctor did nothing and just stared at it, you may assume that a formerly expensive mink coat now resides in the wilds of New York City. Just...lurking in the shadows until some confused Vashta Nerada take care of it.

What happens when the Doctor shows up moments after the end of Ghostbusters II? The answer is beneath the cut. )
