So yesterday, I was diagnosed with a ear infection in my left ear*. I have been prescribed antibiotics. Due to all the issues with the ear infection, we’ll see if I’m able to piece together** my Into A Bar story by the 7th. If I’m still not great day after tomorrow, then I’ll see about getting a message to the mods before the deadline and then posting it at AO3 when I’m better. Wish me luck.

I was also supposed to go to the dentist today, but given the situation, he’s (never mentioned on here, I don't think-—my old one retired at the end of March; someone else took over) rescheduled for when I’m better. Hopefully by the 12th.

*I'm getting a whooshing in that ear, ringing, pain, nausea--possibly a fever yesterday, but nobody thought to check until it broke. It was enough to recall the situation 3 years ago, and for me to know exactly what it was, and get to the doctor. I was right. They said there’s fluid, it’s very red, and it’s a definite inner ear infection. There was also a mysterious pain in my neck close to the ear a couple days before, and that seems to be where it originated.

**Before this? The story itself before I get everything fixed around it was at least at the current word count of 7525 words.

For those that may be interested, Syfy is having a marathon of Highlander: The Series today, from 7 AM CST, to 6 PM CST. And then 8 AM CST Sunday morning, until early Monday morning at 3 AM, they are having a Buffy marathon.

In other news, yesterday I spotted the entirety of the first season of Orphan Black on Comcast On Demand. Watched all of it, enjoyed it--I'll be watching when season 2 starts. All I managed to catch when it first aired was the first episode, and part of the second, I think.

On a more serious note, Mom seems to have done well with the chemo—which was Monday through Wednesday morning. The next round is in two weeks.

Mom had the port implanted without any problems yesterday and was home a little after 11 AM. Well, no problems aside from a doctor behind schedule—she was due for it to be put in at 8 AM, had been there by 6 AM to do paperwork and get checked in, but the person that put it in didn’t get her back there to do it until 9:45 or so. Her arm is very sore, but not as bad as she expected.

Her first round of chemo starts Monday.

Meanwhile, the evening before, Phillip (her older brother) arrived with Shasta Creme Soda. Since Mom had wanted some since back she was in Hickory, and he had finally found some. He brought more than expected, though. Five cases of it. 24 cans a case.

There’s not enough room in the fridge for all of that, so it’s staying in a back room somewhere for a while.

I’d say that craving is satisfied.

(Posting yesterday’s and today’s now, while I have a few minutes between helping with gathering everything we'll need to take to Nashville and locating a hotel that’s actually got a vacancy outside of just Thursday—-and doesn’t have bed bugs. The Bed Bug Registry is incredibly useful with that last bit.

Thank you to everyone that's sent their well wishes.)

Mom has been sick for a couple weeks now, unable to stop coughing or get warm. She assumed it was the bad cold that keeps going around for everyone, but I didn’t think so. I’ve been telling her to go to the doctor since she couldn’t even lay down without coughing too much for the last few days, and she went this morning. I've had pneumonia, and this didn't seem like that or anything like the flu.

They’re sending her to the hospital for a CAT scan now, to see if it’s ovarian cancer. I’ll update everyone if it is or not when anything is known, but yeah. That’s how things are here.

(Disabling comments, since we don’t actually know anything for certain yet.)

According to Mom, today is one year to the day since I ended up in the hospital (a trip which lasted 2 1/2 weeks) with the bleeding ulcer covering 50% of my stomach, which has since fully healed. And for anyone new to my friends list, the whole horrific story can be read in this post.

So basically, within a year I've managed to survive that, and a freak ice storm that left everyone nearly frozen to death after four days, at the very least.

Here's hoping the next year isn't as freakish or awful!

I just got my lab results that tell how my iron levels are doing. Currently, it’s at 14.9, which is great. They checked for everything you can possibly check for with a tiny blood sample, and everything seems perfectly fine. I’m also still at exactly 106 lbs—my doctor says she wishes she could whatever she wanted and never gain a single pound. Heh.

Over at [community profile] fandom_stocking, all the presents have now been unscreened. I got 12 Illyana Rasputin icons, 4 Willow/Tara icons, a Kitty/Illyana drabble, a Doctor/Donna drabble, a Martha and Doctor snippet, a Martha/Jack drabble, and a Methos/Amanda drabble. Of those gifts that came from people on my friends list, thank you again!

For those that are interested, Greatestjournal has finally permanently left the scene. I went there yesterday evening, and grabbed a couple of profiles for an RPG character I had that were never used. Other than that, I had grabbed everything I needed from there months ago. Looks like I did that just in time. Of course, I still liked to go through the old find_a_pb posts over there.

And the Writer’s Block for today is asking who is a better pick for the Eleventh Doctor. My list of dream picks? Peter Wingfield, Patrick Stewart, Alexis Denisof, Patterson Joseph, or David Morrissey. Anthony Stewart Head, if he weren’t busy with Merlin. Would Michael Shanks work? I just thought of him. Someone suggested Michael Caine--that would be a great one.

As I’ve previously stated, Christopher Lloyd in his Back to the Future days would be a good one. I can’t think of any others that haven’t already been mentioned. Over at [community profile] doctorwho, someone suggested Masi Oka—that would be sort of cute.

I'm back from the hospital, and they say my ulcer is 100% gone. YES! While he was in there, he took a scraping again, just to be sure it wasn't caused by any bacteria--he did the same last time, but wanted to double check. Still nothing, so it was what everyone thought it was caused by--the Aleve and Ibuprofen.

This time, the stuff hasn't knocked me out for the rest of the day, but I'm just taking it easy. My appointment was to be there by 9:30, I got there at 9:05.

Then waited a long time, and after everything I finally got wheeled to the endoscopy area around 11. They were done, and I was awake and sent home around 12:30 PM. (It took a while before someone removed the IV, because things were busy)

So far, I seem to be doing better, according to the endoscopy doctor’s assistant. So the endoscopy is scheduled for August 22nd, at 9:30 AM. It also seems that the story of my ulcer was spread through their office, because everyone knew exactly what I was there for and I didn’t need to tell them. The receptionist was stunned when I mentioned I hadn’t had any symptoms of an ulcer before I threw up blood.

Oh, and Mom and I asked what I couldn’t eat. She said hamburgers—I said I never liked those and didn’t go near them. She said cauliflower and raw stuff like that—I said I didn’t eat that (cauliflower) anyway. She said acidic things, probably like orange juice--I didn’t drink that anyway. Hot dogs, since it might be too greasy right now--couldn’t digest it anyway, so I avoid it. So she finally said I can eat whatever I want, since I apparently stayed away from bad stuff anyway.

Mom found a pamphlet on the type of ulcer I have while we were there, and read off the long list of symptoms. I didn’t have a single one, which is apparently bizarre.

In other news, for those that might want to vote in the RPG related poll I posted yesterday and just missed it before, you can find it here. The poll will remain open until the weekend, at least.

First, some strange news—Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen will be starring in an as yet untitled Sherlock Holmes comedy. Cohen will be Holmes, and Ferrell will be Watson. I don’t see that working, and I’m staying far away from that one, since I tend to avoid movies with those two in them.

The only Holmes comedy I’ve actually seen and loved was Without a Clue, which starred Michael Caine as Sherlock Holmes. Of course, I only saw it once on television many years ago, and haven’t been able to find it since then.

Edit: Wow, looks like I’ll be able to watch it again. Someone uploaded it to Youtube.

In other news, if I’m still doing good health-wise on the 18th, I’ll be going to see The Dark Knight. I just won’t be getting any popcorn, since that’s off the list of things I’m allowed while the ulcer heals.

I just got a bill in the mail telling how much the 4 or 5 minute ride in the ambulance to the hospital was, where all they did was start an IV, put an oxygen thing around my nose, and put EKG pads on me. (The trip was over before they could actually do anything.) $925. I knew they charged a lot for those rides...

Good news: My insurance paid all except $200, and Mom and Dad are helping out with that. I can't wait to see how much the bill for the actual stay in the hospital is.
calliopes_pen: (redscharlach Ianto fridge look)
For those of you that might have noticed that I vanished (Sean, I know you did): I was in the hospital. On Monday the 16th, around 2 PM, I felt weird—like a hot flash but worse. It went away. Then, around 5:15 PM, it started again, I went to the bathroom--and threw up a toilet full of blood. I think I tried to call for Mom (doesn’t matter, since she was nearby and heard me) and then I fainted. I’m told the reason for that was because my iron level went from 13 down to 6 or 7 in about 2 seconds.

The ambulance hit every pot hole known to man in the 3 minutes it took to get to the hospital. The poor EMT nearly fell over twice.

Either Mom or Dad stayed with me the entire time I was in the hospital, in shifts, since with all the tubes, I wouldn't have been able to reach the nurse call button from where it was located.

Bleeding ulcer causes a hospital trip )

I'll post more about what happened as I think of it.
