Mira Furlan has passed away, at the age of 65, from an undisclosed illness. May she rest in peace. Her health had been reportedly fading for some time, and the former cast of Babylon 5 had been aware of it.

I fell in love with Babylon 5 when it was airing on Comet. She was fantastic as Delenn. And, in the past, I had thought she might just fare rather well if she were ever cast as the Doctor on Doctor Who.

Sadly, I do not have any icons of her on Babylon 5 (I think the only one I’ve got is the snark about ducks and cats from Londo and Vir).
calliopes_pen: (sallymn disaster of the day Hammond)
Carmen Argenziano passed away yesterday at the age of 75. May he rest in peace. I will forever remember him best as Jacob/Selmak on Stargate SG-1, given one of the first episodes I ever saw (during a marathon on The Sci-Fi Channel prior to the name change to Syfy, I believe) of the series was where Jacob received his symbiote; Comet tends to have marathons of the series on Tuesdays, but I don’t think they’re up to his episodes again just yet.

He also appeared in an episode of Babylon 5; it was season 2, and the episode was Knives, so I haven’t watched it just yet. He played Urza Jaddo. I’ve seen most of season 1 and seasons 3-5, so I’m getting there soon enough.

A perusal of his IMDB page tells me he popped up in more stuff than I ever realized over the decades, including an early role in Grave of the Vampire (1972), an episode of Columbo (Identity Crisis, in 1975), When A Stranger Calls (1979), an episode of Designing Women in 1987, and The First Power (1990).

To my surprise, I do not have a Jacob/Selmak icon. Nor do I have one of Samantha Carter, so have one of Hammond asking about the disaster of the day. It felt just a bit more appropriate than the one of Daniel saying he'd find someone more interesting if they were dead.

William Morgan Sheppard has passed away at the age of 86. May he rest in peace. He had been in so many shows and films over the years, and it was always interesting to see him pop up. For Doctor Who fans, he played the elder version of Canton Everett Delaware III (the younger version being his actual son in real life) in the episode The Impossible Astronaut.

For Trek fans, he can be found in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and in the 2009 movie. I recently spotted him again in reruns of Babylon 5. If you were a fan of Days of Our Lives back in the 90’s, you might recall him as being responsible for a massacre at Greta’s coronation. I also recall him being in Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (1988).

After checking his IMDB page, I see that I’ll have to locate one of his films in particular: The Doctor And The Devils (1985) looks interesting, being based on the story of Burke and Hare; it also stars Timothy Dalton and Patrick Stewart.
calliopes_pen: (lost_spook lost found Jonathan Mina)
It appears that I ended up receiving a Yuletide story this year after all, contrary to my expectations. It was a lovely treat to receive on this morning. So whoever you are, if you are reading this post, thank you so much. I thought I might know who wrote it, but I could be wrong (seeing as someone other than the previously presumed two people in this fandom wrote a story in this fandom this year).
