Willie Garson has passed away, at the age of 57, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. May he rest in peace.

I mostly remember loving him as Mozzie from the brief time (probably just saw the first season, and part of season 2, not sure; I wandered away and never cared enough to return) I watched White Collar years ago. I knew he recently popped up on a few episodes of Supergirl when I happened to look in on that show, and during a rewatch of a few episodes of Quantum Leap (on Comet) a few months back, I was surprised to realize that he played Lee Harvey Oswald.

After looking through his filmography, I realized that I do remember him from Soapdish (1991) and Stargate SG-1. In the latter, he was the alien that helped produce Wormhole X-Treme. He was apparently a bodyguard in an episode of Buffy: Killed By Death, from season 2.
calliopes_pen: (sallymn SG-1 ascend through gate)
Cliff Simon passed away on March 9th, at the age of 58, following a kiteboarding accident. May he rest in peace.

I will always remember him best as Ba’al on Stargate SG-1. During later seasons that weren’t that great, the character of Ba’al (and his many clones) was always a welcome dose of fun and charisma.
calliopes_pen: (sallymn disaster of the day Hammond)
Carmen Argenziano passed away yesterday at the age of 75. May he rest in peace. I will forever remember him best as Jacob/Selmak on Stargate SG-1, given one of the first episodes I ever saw (during a marathon on The Sci-Fi Channel prior to the name change to Syfy, I believe) of the series was where Jacob received his symbiote; Comet tends to have marathons of the series on Tuesdays, but I don’t think they’re up to his episodes again just yet.

He also appeared in an episode of Babylon 5; it was season 2, and the episode was Knives, so I haven’t watched it just yet. He played Urza Jaddo. I’ve seen most of season 1 and seasons 3-5, so I’m getting there soon enough.

A perusal of his IMDB page tells me he popped up in more stuff than I ever realized over the decades, including an early role in Grave of the Vampire (1972), an episode of Columbo (Identity Crisis, in 1975), When A Stranger Calls (1979), an episode of Designing Women in 1987, and The First Power (1990).

To my surprise, I do not have a Jacob/Selmak icon. Nor do I have one of Samantha Carter, so have one of Hammond asking about the disaster of the day. It felt just a bit more appropriate than the one of Daniel saying he'd find someone more interesting if they were dead.

They’ve hauled that thing away six times to the dump and back, and they’ve only made it into the living room. They get here at 7 AM every morning, and they don’t stop until 6 PM.

Livejournal has a virtual gift listed as “Charity: Tornado Relief,” meant to help with donations to those dealing with the aftermath of the tornadoes in Alabama. Do whatever you can to help out. As of right now, 340 are dead, with more being found all the time.

Also, I think I'm starting to see why they want to blow up the levees in Cairo. Because the levees have never been tested like this before, the water is going to come in anyway. It's started already, with it seeping under the roads, and triggering massive sinkholes to cave in as people drive down the street there. But if they do blow them up, everyone loses their homes there.

A sneak peek of BBC America’s behind the scenes special for Doctor Who.

For those that liked Jem and the Holograms, it will be coming to the channel called The Hub.

25 Geeky Weddings. I like the Back to the Future, Ark of the Covenant, TARDIS, and Stargate ones, and the one where everyone was married by Bruce Campbell.

BBC One’s trailer for upcoming drama shows includes some footage from Torchwood: Miracle Day. It starts around the 46 second mark.

Previous Rifftrax Live shows are coming to DVD and Blu-Ray.

Io9 lists “30 geeky shirts that make perfect holiday gifts.” And when it comes to [livejournal.com profile] x_journal, Meggan would wear that Miracle Max shirt proudly. You just know she would.

More Torchwood casting news: Bill Pullman is joining the series. People seem to be excited about that one, but I just think it’s strange. He was great in Independence Day and Casper, but I’m still not going to be watching season 4.

Four more short clips have been released for Doctor Who’s Christmas special.

Io9 remembers Beauty and the Beast. No, not the Disney movie. The series with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. I never watched it, but Mom did. I never knew if it was worth it or not.

The 10 Greatest Paranormal Teen Comedies of the 1980’s. I will admit to liking Zapped at one point. Of course, I was 7 at the time, so that would explain that. I will always love Back to the Future. I will never watch The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, especially after seeing the review of it by The Nostalgia Critic.

For the sum of $100,000, you can have your own Stargate. Iris sold separately. Try not to start an interstellar war once it’s in your hands. Given the fact the gate is 264 feet in diameter, I have wonder where you would put it and how it would even be shipped to you.

Ryan Reynolds will either be in the Deadpool movie, or R.I.P.D., but he can’t do both.

It’s Bill Murray’s birthday, and if you check the comments of [profile] gizmodo, you’ll find clips from Ghostbusters, as well as a few other movies of his. This is my first time seeing his Zombieland scene, since zombies have never interested me.

I’m digging through entries at [profile] kindertrauma. Anyone else remember the Bunyip from Dot and the Kangaroo? Also, does anyone on my friends list know what this is from? Someone is trying to find out over there, and now I desperately want to see whatever horror movie that clip comes from. I don’t have a clue what it could be, even with all my horror movie guides at hand. Mom says she recognizes it and it was probably from the 70’s, but doesn’t know what it’s from either.

Also, while I was trying to help find out what that movie was via Youtube, I stumbled across a few clips from a series called Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased). A remake of an older series, judging by what Wikipedia says. Is it worth watching?

ETA: For the curious, this clip and this clip are the two that drew my interest. I also just realized that the girl in the second clip plays Morgause in Merlin.

There’s a chance Blue Beetle will get his own live action series. It’s the Jaime Reyes version, not the Ted Kord version. I don’t believe I’ve read any of his comics, other than what’s popped up on scans_daily, and what I heard through a review Linkara did.
