From The Nostalgia Critic: The Weirdest Jack And The Beanstalk. It’s just a bit over 15 minutes, without all the usual skits that he's done lately with his reviews.

I watched that movie when I was 2 or 3 in the 1980’s; I'm just surprised someone else knows about it, since very few people I have encountered ever have. Right around that same time, I discovered both Unico movies. And around that same time was The Little Mermaid (also anime; this one, not another from the same time frame) and The Last Unicorn (which wasn’t as surreal as the others). Is it any wonder I am the way I am, and go for the darker (and possibly on the weirder side) fairy tale stuff?

(It explains a lot. Granted, back then I sort of liked the evil Hecuba from that version of Jack And The Beanstalk, and found Jack to be the weird one.)

Meanwhile, checking on the poll in the previous locked (only on Dreamwidth) post: So far, it’s at a tie between people just wanting to vote, and people in favor of a Gothic Horror/Romance community; second place is do both. I forgot to mention that the poll will continue through Saturday evening.

I almost went to get tickets to see Halloween (1978) on October 25th, at 7 PM. However, I realized that Rifftrax Live: Birdemic is at the exact same time/day. I don’t want to be there for the later showing of 9:30 PM, so I’ll just watch it whenever AMC happens to show it again. (ETA: They show it on AMC on the 23rd at 3 PM—works out for me.)

That would be back before anyone except Memphis (at least around this area) really had that channel, so I only ever saw it when we stayed at a hotel there for my sister’s eye doctor appointments. Strangely enough, I saw this exact one—makes sense, I probably would have been there watching June of 1991.

10 Awesome DC Animated Moments From Cartoons That Aren’t Part of the DC Animated Universe. After reading the comments, sounds like I should track down Justice League: The New Frontier.

Like [personal profile] persiflage_1, switching the words--this time, to “Paper. Scissors. Rock. Doctor. Methos.”

1 - Who'd win in a sword fight between Jack and Methos?
I’ll say Methos, given that he has the most experience. Jack gets himself decapitated since Methos ignores the flirting and assumes he’s an Immortal after his head. Likely just shoots him dead, takes his head. When Jack revives and continues talking while just a head on the ground, it gets a little bit freaky. And, thus, we finally have the one true explanation for just how he became the Face of Boe.

2 - If you could study any subject at all, anywhere in the world, what would you choose?
There are a few. Folklore, mythology, Absolutely nobody will be surprised by this one, not even my family. Paranormal/Parapsychology. You can blame Ghostbusters for that one. There was a college somewhere where they were studying vampire films and tv shows. I would have loved to be in that class.

3 - Finish this sentence: It's raining...
“It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring. He went to bed and bumped his head, and couldn’t get up in the morning.” It’s an old nursery rhyme. It was either that, or it’s raining and turning into a massive amount of sleet.

4 - What's your favourite New Who episode?
Blink. I love the first appearance of the Weeping Angels. A very close second is The Unquiet Dead, since that was the first episode I ever saw.

5 - If you could persuade a film maker to reboot a favourite movie, what would you pick?
This was a tough one. Avoiding Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, or Indiana Jones, since remaking those would be horrific.

At one point, they were trying to get a live action version of The Last Unicorn off the ground before it faltered—so I’ll say that. Get Peter Jackson behind it—ideally once he’s finished with The Hobbit. Try to keep Christopher Lee as King Haggard. If he’s unavailable, then try for Ian McKellen. Get Peter S. Beagle to oversee the script so it won’t divert too far from his vision, and this time make sure he gets his fair share of the profit like he so richly deserves.

Watch a sneak preview of the Doctor Who Christmas Special Confidential. For those trying to avoid spoilers for the special or the coming season, there’s no need to worry. I didn’t spot any.

BBC America is adding Primeval, Bedlam and Outcasts to their Supernatural Saturday block. After reading the descriptions of the latter two, Bedlam seems interesting. It also doesn’t have an IMDB or Wikipedia page, so I can only assume we are getting it at the same time as the UK.

The Rifftrax for Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny is now available.

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale—about an evil version of Santa—actually looks pretty good, going by this trailer. The American voiceover doing tag lines ruins it a bit, but I’ve heard there’s another trailer floating around. And thanks to Familiar Faces over at That Guy With The Glasses, I immediately thought of the Krampus. Here’s his video on that topic.

Okay, during the night an anonymous commenter wandered into my journal and posted a comment in the previous entry. I’m set to screen comments if they’re from someone that’s not on my friends list, or anonymous. I believe it was spam. The text was hitting the limits for how big it could get, all caps, and bright red. I deleted it. The words were basically gibberish, but slightly entertaining. This (sized down, removing the red for easier reading—still in caps, though) is what was posted: “THE BIRD OF THE SUN MUST BRING AN OFFERING TO THE LADY OF THE LAKE, FOR IF THE STEEL MAN HIDES THE KEY, THE ARMIES OF JUSTICE WILL MARCH TO SESAME STREET.”

I thought it was a reference to something at first, but a Google search turns up nothing. Although, it does sound like something The Question would mutter while discussing conspiracy theories, and in between saying that aglets are designed to kill. Or some obscure password that spies would mutter to gain entrance to a forbidden club.

That, or Piotr Rasputin is going to lay waste to Sesame Street after locating the sword Excalibur and getting access to the Phoenix Force. Your call.

Io9 lists The 5 Most Tear-Jerking X-Men Deaths. Little Illyana from the Legacy Virus, and Doug are two that I definitely agree with. If we weren’t only counting X-Men, I would have added Aunt May in Amazing Spider-Man #400—even if it was retconned into being an actress pretending to be Aunt May.

If you haven't already seen The Nostalgia Critic's latest video, you need to do so. He's reviewing The Room, and through the course of the video he does a skit relating to Back to the Future, and a "This is an ex-parrot" homage. The whole thing is great.

I’m leaving the poll open until Thursday afternoon. As of right now, it looks like Renee Montoya is winning with 7 votes.

I've just received word that my old elementary school principal has passed away. I don’t think I had seen him since middle school, since he occasionally popped over for a visit with the principal there. He was 73, but it wasn’t old age, it was pancreatic cancer. Mom says that when he retired, he became a beekeeper. From what I gather, he did that until the day he died.

Just...what’s the thought process behind that? Given the rating, it’s an uncut version, too. All the crude and disgusting bits intact for the whole family, on early morning television! This has been your almost brain breaking moment of the morning. Anyone that wants to see just how horrible and unfunny that movie is, I’ll dig up The Nostalgia Critic’s review. It almost broke him.

I used to collect the cards and stickers--and I had a ring of those things at one point. I put those stickers everywhere. If you look hard enough, despite everyone trying to remove them, there are still a handful hidden in various corners and closets.

I used to collect the cards and stickers--and I had a ring of those things at one point. I put those stickers everywhere. If you look hard enough, despite everyone trying to remove them, there are still a handful hidden in various corners and closets.

A woman wrecked her car. The reason she told to police? A vampire supposedly jumped in front of her.

The Nostalgia Critic reviewed Hook.

Yet another Spider-Man casting rumor. This time, it’s that Josh Hutcherson was offered the role.

As if anyone expected anything different given how far-fetched the rumor was—the BBC says that there’s no Doctor Who movie in the works, and Johnny Depp wouldn’t star in it if there were. If you read the comments, you will come away with the horrifying image of Gary Busey as the Doctor due to one small joke.

From what I can tell, comment notifications are working perfectly—at least in this journal. [profile] x_meggan, on the other hand, seems to have comment notifications on the fritz. Maybe it’s permanent accounts that get it fixed first, then everyone else (as that’s a plus account) down the line? I have no idea.

ETA: I stand corrected. One comment arrived in the other journal after a 6 hour delay. Meanwhile, the two comments here haven't, as of yet.
