Yuletide continues to take nominations until Wednesday, October 3rd. Just in case Ghostbusters and The Super Dictionary don’t end up being nominated, I’ve made a note to nominate them myself for next year’s Yuletide.

Meanwhile, for Yuletide research purposes, I have now watched Real Genius, The Green Hornet, and MirrorMask—in addition to Snow White And the Huntsman and The Cabin In The Woods a couple weeks back. The Monster Squad is up next.

Celebrate the late composer John Barry with 9 great sci-fi film scores.

Via [livejournal.com profile] robot6: The death of Wizard and Toyfare, from the inside. Still nothing on if anyone will get any refunds.

Sci Fi Wire lists eleven women who could work as Lois Lane. Ellen Page doesn’t really fit. Amy Acker is close. Carey Mulligan, unfortunately, isn’t quite right either. Not listed, but could possibly work: Anna Friel or Charisma Carpenter.

Tor remembers my one favorite episode of Quantum Leap—the one with Stephen King as a boy, and Al as Satan.

And a meme, taken from [livejournal.com profile] shiny_glor_chan:

Whatever pops into your head first, write that down as your reply. Suggestion: don't read others' replies before you write down your own. What do you associate me with?

1) Fandom
2) Character
3) Pairing (or threesome)
4) Hobby (A passionate interest that isn't Fandom)
5) Color
6) Flower
7) Tree
8) Food

The worst of the thunderstorms seems to have gone to Arkansas and Louisiana. We ended up with a small amount of rain--tomorrow, it will be 5 degrees with high winds and a chance of snow headed our way as I head out for a doctor's appointment. Good luck to everyone getting the worst of the storms and snow.

Second to last call for the auction at [livejournal.com profile] qldfloodauction. The bidding comes to a close tomorrow night, for anyone still wanting to get in one.

Io9 lists The Most Iconic, Stylish, And Just Plain Wacky Opening Credits On Television. Doctor Who, Swamp Thing, X-Men: TAS, Firefly, Buffy, MST3K, Cleopatra 2525, and many others make the list.

It looks like a sequel to Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetery Man) is in the works.

Via Robot 6: iFanboy was informed by an anonymous Wizard staff member that Wizard shut down on Sunday, and the staffer was not permitted to return and collect their belongings. Rest in peace, Twisted Toyfare Theater.

[livejournal.com profile] madripoor_rose? I’ve been looking around various sites to see if there are any magazines left for comic fans, like I promised. So far, the only one I’ve turned up that hasn’t gone under within the last few years was one called Comic Buyer’s Guide. However, Wikipedia says that their page count was recently reduced, and the price guide scrapped, similar to what Wizard did. Can anyone on my friends list recommend anything else?

A developing story is that Wizard Magazine may be dead. Calls go unanswered, the subscription page of their site returns a 404, their “bullpen website” is down, and numerous other suspicious things are going on. Toyfare may continue being published for now, but I wouldn't count on that lasting too long given the evidence. I had just renewed my subscription to Wizard for another year and they’ve cashed that check, so they owe me--and many other people.

ETA: Good, just checked and I hadn't renewed my subscription to Toyfare yet. Now I won't be doing that.

ETA 2: An update on the developing story. They now say that Toyfare will also be ceasing publication immediately.

Snakes. Why’d it have to be snakes? I had a problem with one rather large snake on the front porch (Dad decapitated it with a shovel) which just refused to slither off when I was little, but thousands inside the house? I would have lost it. According to someone in both the Gawker and Jezebel comments, that house was featured on an episode of Animal Planet’s series Infested. If you want to see news footage of the house, head for the Gawker link.

Booster Gold has been cast on Smallville. He will be played by Eric Martsolf, who I know as Brady from Days of Our Lives. And, formerly, Ethan from Passions. He doesn’t really seem right for the role, but he can act.

And now, just spreading a meme from a few on my IJ friends list:

1. Name one of my RP characters and one of yours (or one of someone else's if your really want).
2. Name a destination, anywhere in the known or created universes.
3. I'll write you my character's postcard to the other, from that destination.

There’s two more days for bidding in the auction to help Australia at [livejournal.com profile] qldfloodauction, and my thread is here. Bidding was at $10 as of the last I checked.
