Regis Philbin passed away Friday night, at the age of 88, reportedly from natural causes. May he rest in peace. In one month, he would have turned 89.

I loved watching his show every morning for years. I only watched Who Wants To Be A Millionaire when he was the host. I remember that in 2004, he set a Guinness World Record for most number of hours spent on camera. He, as well as the wonderful stories he always told, will be forever missed.

My thoughts go out to his family, his friends, and to everyone who loved him.

Stumbled across this, from 2011, for anyone that’s interested: The creators of Disney's 'Mr. Boogedy' talk about the film 25 years after its premiere. Some interesting trivia about what went on behind the scenes—for instance, a young Joaquin (then known as Leaf) Phoenix was almost in the first film, in the role that went to David Faustino.

Michael Clarke Duncan has passed away, at the age of 54. He suffered a heart attack in July, from which he never fully recovered. May he rest in peace. He was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for his role in The Green Mile. The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen: 1996 would include Dana Scully and Zack Morris. I desperately want this come Yuletide—or fanfic involving the cast seen in the posters behind them. Since that one would be Egon, Max Headroom, Jem, Connor Macleod, Teen Wolf, someone from Tron, Carmen Sandiego, KITT, and a few others I cannot identify. (Hey, someone wrote this for me one year, I’d love to see either of these, too.) So I may just end up nominating both, if I’m able and don’t have any other prompts. If it weren’t 1996 and therefore pre-season 1, I would agree with the comments to add Willow or Buffy.

From Cracked: Secondhand Nightmares: 10 Horrifying Thrift Store Finds.

Some new images from X-Men: First Class have been released, as well as the poster.

Selina Kyle (look carefully, it hasn’t said Catwoman in the press release—just Selina Kyle) and Bane will be the villains for The Dark Knight Rises. Anne Hathaway will be Selina Kyle, while Tom Hardy will be Bane. Rachel Weisz would have been my pick, but Anne Hathaway might be okay. Before anyone complains, just remember the uproar when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker. I’ve only ever seen Hardy as Shinzon in Star Trek: Nemesis, so I should watch get around to watching Inception soon.

Io9 has written a great overview of Bane’s history in the comics.

For Regis’ replacement, I’ve seen the suggestions of Anderson Cooper, Kelly’s husband, Mark, and various other people—but what about John O’Hurley or Tom Bergeron?

A huge thanks to the current highest bidder ([personal profile] misura, at $6) in my thread at [profile] qldfloodauction. Bidding closes on the 26th, if anyone wants to join in on offering fanfic or other items for the auction.

Spider-Man is going to have mechanical webshooters, rather than organic ones this time around.

The newest trailer for Being Human, season 3.

Previously unreleased footage of the late Andy Hallett attending Slayerfest back in 2005 has been made available. [profile] whedonesque discusses it here. May he continue to rest in peace.

After 28 years on the air, Regis Philbin is ready to retire. I’ve been watching his show since I was 7—so 22 years for me. I never thought he would retire. I honestly expected him to die on the set, or during a show first. If they manage to replace him, the only ones I can see working are Anderson Cooper (who has a show on CNN) or her husband. And Jezebel has this article: What Television Loses When Regis Retires.

From Cracked: 8 Famous Fictional Archaeologists Who Suck At Their Jobs.

[profile] shengirl is the highest bidder ($5 so far) for me over at [profile] qldfloodauction. Also related to the auction—they have a request post, where you can tell how much you’re willing to pay. Someone will then come along and write something for you.
