Rest In Peace, Christopher Plummer

Christopher Plummer has passed away, at the age of 91, due to complications from a fall. May he rest in peace.

While I am not a fan of The Sound of Music, I absolutely adored him as General Chang in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. He was a fantastic Sherlock Holmes in Murder By Decree (1979), which I really need to rewatch. I might also revisit (though I cannot recommend it, from what I recall of the one time I watched it) Dracula 2000 (2000), since he was Van Helsing in that.

After sifting through his filmography, I see that I need to watch Shadow Dancing (1988), Dial ‘M’ For Murder (1981), and Somewhere In Time (1980).

Rest In Peace, Grant Imahara

Grant Imahara has passed away, at the age of 49, due to a sudden brain aneurysm. May he rest in peace.

It’s been well over a decade since I watched a single episode of Mythbusters. However, I do remember liking him. He just seemed like a genuinely good guy, and will be missed. I’ve also just learned that he built Geoff, Craig Ferguson’s robot sidekick. He was also Sulu for Star Trek Continues.

Rest In Peace, René Auberjonois

René Auberjonois has passed away, at the age of 79, following a battle with metastatic lung cancer. May he rest in peace. While I didn’t watch much of it, I still think of him as Odo first and foremost, whenever I hear his name.

It was only within the last few years that I watched Benson for the first time on Antenna TV, and I enjoyed his role as Clayton Runnymede Endicott III. Within the last few months I dared to watch the abysmal Broadway version of Tanz Der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires, over here if you feel like you want to watch) on Youtube. He was fantastic as Professor Abronsius; really, he (as well as Max Von Essen, as Alfred) was one of the only good things in that adaptation.

I loved him as Modoc in My Best Friend Is A Vampire (1987), as well as his part as the voice of The Skull in The Last Unicorn (1982). With the latter, for years I thought he was also the singing butterfly, but no. IMDB says that was Robert Klein.

I need to track down The Dark Secret of Harvest Home (1978 miniseries). I never got around to watching it, and never knew he was in it until now.

Rest In Peace, W. Morgan Sheppard

William Morgan Sheppard has passed away at the age of 86. May he rest in peace. He had been in so many shows and films over the years, and it was always interesting to see him pop up. For Doctor Who fans, he played the elder version of Canton Everett Delaware III (the younger version being his actual son in real life) in the episode The Impossible Astronaut.

For Trek fans, he can be found in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and in the 2009 movie. I recently spotted him again in reruns of Babylon 5. If you were a fan of Days of Our Lives back in the 90’s, you might recall him as being responsible for a massacre at Greta’s coronation. I also recall him being in Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (1988).

After checking his IMDB page, I see that I’ll have to locate one of his films in particular: The Doctor And The Devils (1985) looks interesting, being based on the story of Burke and Hare; it also stars Timothy Dalton and Patrick Stewart.

Rest In Peace, Martin Landau and Thomas E. Sanders

Martin Landau has passed away at the age of 89, after “suffering complications during a brief hospitalization.” May he rest in peace.

I remember him mostly for how great he was as Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood (1994). He won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor the role. I don’t believe that I’ve ever seen the original Mission: Impossible series, or Space: 1999. He was in an episode of Columbo where he played twins—I’ve seen that episode once, a while back on Me-TV. After going through IMDB, I also learned that he was the voice of Mac Gargan/The Scorpion, in Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

I spotted North By Northwest via Comcast On Demand’s Turner Classic Movies section (can’t get the channel, but I can get the On Demand version of it) just the other day, and wondered if I should give it a watch. So now I will. I may also track down Strange Shadows In An Empty Room (1976) and The Fall of the House of Usher (1979), since he plays Roderick Usher.

Thomas E. Sanders has passed away, at the age of 63, after a battle with cancer. May he rest in peace. He was the production designer for Crimson Peak (2015), and Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992). For Star Trek fans, he did production design for Star Trek Beyond. I’ll be watching Crimson Peak again this evening.

(And apparently, linking to Deadline is considered spam. Therefore, it cannot accept the crosspost with that link. So on the LJ side, the only link is the Star Trek.com article.)

Rest In Peace, Miguel Ferrer

Miguel Ferrer has passed away at the age of 61, following a battle with cancer. May he rest in peace. I thought I only knew him as the voice of J’onn J’onnz in Justice League: The New Frontier (2008), and as The Weather Man in the infamously bad Justice League of America (1997).

Apparently, he also played a First Officer in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock (1984). According to IMDB, I might have seen him in passing in I Love The 90’s: Part Deux as a commentator, and I Love The 70’s, along with the E! True Hollywood Story: The Curse of Poltergeist, from 2002.

He had also just been revealed as the voice for Deathstroke in Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, which was due to be released later in the year.

Rest In Peace, Anton Yelchin

Anton Yelchin died yesterday in a freak accident involving his car. He was found by friends “pinned between his car and a brick mailbox pillar” after it seemingly rolled down a hill while in neutral. Police do not suspect foul play. He was 27 years old. May he rest in peace. He did a great job with the character of Charlie in Fright Night (2011). For Star Trek fans, he was Chekov in the Star Trek reboot.

I might give Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) one last shot, as I never made it all the way through. I will also track down Odd Thomas and Burying The Ex.

Hollywood Remembers Anton Yelchin.

This truly is a rotten year for famous people. It’s at the point where I expect someone famous to have died whenever I’m about to read my friends list. I just didn’t expect that one.

Rest In Peace, James Horner And Dick Van Patten

James Horner passed away yesterday, at the age of 61, after his plane crashed in a field. May he rest in peace. He was an Oscar winning composer who worked on many movies over the decades, including these: The Rocketeer, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, Krull, Willow, Jumanji, Hocus Pocus, and Aliens. For MST3K fans, he also worked on theme music for Deathstalker And The Warriors From Hell.

Dick Van Patten passed away at the age of 86, due to complications from diabetes. May he rest in peace. I never watched Eight Is Enough, so I believe I mostly recall him from Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Spaceballs, and The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking (1988).

Rest In Peace, Leonard Nimoy

Leonard Nimoy has passed away at the age of 83, after suffering from chest pains a few days ago. It was a result of his long battle with COPD. May he rest in peace. When I was small, I loved watching him as the host of In Search Of, and enjoyed his part in the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I didn’t truly become acquainted with Star Trek until 2001, aside from a brush with the animated series when it aired on Nickelodeon in the 80’s. Thanks to Me-TV, I recently had the chance to see him on Columbo--and courtesy of FamilyNet, saw him on T.J. Hooker.

Here—in memory of him, have that old (incredibly surreal) Ballad of Bilbo Baggins music video he did, rather than his funeral from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. In his memory, I shall watch Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Then, I’ll try to track down his Night Gallery episode, as I have never watched the show.

Rest In Peace, Russell Johnson and Hal Sutherland

Russell Johnson passed away yesterday, at the age of 89, as a result of kidney failure. May he rest in peace. He will be best remembered by most as the Professor on Gilligan’s Island. MST3K fans will also remember him from This Island Earth, which featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie.

Hal Sutherland has passed away. As of the post I link to, there’s no word as to his age, when he died, or how. He was the director of almost every episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series, and was the co-founder of Filmation Studios. May he rest in peace.

Rest In Peace, Michael Ansara

Michael Ansara has passed away, as a result of complications stemming from Alzheimer’s disease, at the age of 91. May he rest in peace. He is perhaps best remembered as the Klingon Kang in Star Trek, and voiced Mr. Freeze in Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond.

Malachi Throne has passed away at the age of 84. May he rest in peace. Star Trek fans will remember him as Commodore Mendez in the TOS episode The Menagerie, as well as the leader of the Talosians in The Cage, and was Senator Pardek in the Star Trek: TNG two-parter Unification. He played False Face in the Adam West Batman series—I recently managed to catch an episode with him, courtesy of ME-TV. He was the narrator for the original 1977 trailer for Star Wars. A quick check of IMDB, tells me he was also the narrator of the cartoon Visionaries: Knights of the Magic Light.
