Or Maybe I Won't Go To Rifftrax Live Tomorrow

As a result of the oncoming ice storm, I will not be going to Rifftrax Live: Santa Claus Conquers The Martians tomorrow.   I've returned the tickets, and obtained a refund.  Right around the time they begin the simulcast, the rain that falls over the course of the day will begin to freeze.   There could also be sleet, and I would really rather not navigate icy roads in the dark.   More--along with a dash of snow (0.6 inches expected for Paducah, 6 inches for other areas) for here, but more in other areas--will be added over the course of Friday.

Friday morning, I also have a doctor appointment--we'll see if I'm able to get there, or if they cancel.  That night, it will be 10 degrees Fahrenheit. "It's not like it's going to be 2009 again," assures the weather lady.

There should be a quarter of an inch, to three quarters of an inch of ice from the freezing rain--but given what they've been saying I don't know if that's Thursday night, or later on Friday.  That could be a problem if it accumulates on power lines.

Just in case of an outage, I have the propane heater for the other house. We have food. Granola bars as a replacement for oatmeal, should the power go out.   We have blankets, and are gathering more from here, and many, many batteries.   Should we get iced in, but don't happen to lose power--and if I can't back over here--I have a flash drive of movies.   I know where a warming station is in Paducah, even if they only take people in at night.

I am currently checking a list of the hotels (again--it hasn't been updated since the air conditioning had a problem a few months back) and gathering their coupons in a manila envelope, just in case our power goes out but power in another area doesn't.   I'll check Trip Advisor, and make sure everything is still suitable.

(And I don't know what's going on with Dreamwidth--unless I'm in Rich Text mode, it removes all the paragraph breaks, and combines everything into one huge paragraph.)

ETA: And to show the difference in temperatures, currently it's 70 degrees outside.  There should be a drastic change by tomorrow night.

Rifftrax Live

I went to Rifftrax Live: Night of the Living Dead last night. If you count Dad, and me...and the guy that works there that refused to leave because he loves Rifftrax so much, (and eventually took a seat on the stairs) then there were a grand total of 110 people at the showing. No problems, no power outages or technical difficulties this time around, and the heating worked fine in our theater--we just had to deal with the temperature going to below freezing outdoors as we left.

Did anyone else on my friends list go?

The next Rifftrax Live is Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, on December 5th.

Something I Noticed

For anyone planning on buying tickets to Rifftrax Live: Night of the Living Dead--they just went on sale at the local Cinemark. Even if they aren't supposed to go on sale until August 30th, people might want to check on that in their areas--just in case they tend to sell out wherever you are. I just bought tickets, seeing as there was a large crowd at this last one.

Rifftrax Live

Did anyone else on my friends list attend the showing of Rifftrax Live: Starship Troopers last night? For once, we had around 80 people (if you don’t count me, and you don’t count Dad) where I was. It’s usually 5 or 6. Based on what I’ve read on Satellite News, the slight issue of the battle scenes and music drowning out the riffs was noticed by everyone--so it wasn’t confined to one theater.

October 24th, they’ll be doing Rifftrax Live: Night of the Living Dead--so we’ll see how things are going around here closer to the time, and whether or not I can make it.

Macmillan will sell e-books to libraries in pilot program at $25 per title

How Was SFSketchFest/Best of RiffTrax? I managed to go to the Manos screening. Due to an awful movie (one of the Wayans brothers spoofing the Paranormal Activity franchise—I walked in during what seemed to be the guy being jealous as he watched someone loudly having sex with a ghost; not being interested in watching this moment with Dad, we turned and left, opting to stay in the hall until it finished) running too long, Rifftrax wouldn’t have had time for the trivia/joke cards at the start. So the manager let everyone vote—we decided even if it went overly long, we wanted it. Things were fine, until midway through one of the shorts—the power in the whole theater went out. 5-10 minutes later, it came back, and we started where we left off. Someone that had been there for the previous showing (and its interruption by tornado and power outage) said it had happened at that same point, too. The manager (who also personally went in and cleaned up after the previous viewing of that movie) came in and apologized.

Unfortunately, the heat didn’t come back on. Instead, about 20 minutes before the end, the air conditioning was going full blast—so I had my coat on. Got out around 9:45 PM, and made it home shortly before the sleet (which the Weather Channel has dubbed Winter Storm Khan—feel free to insert your own Kirk scream here) started. Outside of all of that, I have to say it was great.
