Weirdly, I was just nominated for the Wicked Awards for a ship_manifesto essay I wrote for Angel/Darla back in 2006. I have until September 1st to accept or reject this nomination. Looking through it now, I see almost all of the links are dead (a couple went to Geocities) and gone, several fanfic sites turned to dust, and at least one journal has been deleted and purged. I’m leaning towards rejecting this nomination due to the fact it wouldn’t be of any practical use to people these days, and is barely an overview.

I’d like to know if it will mess anything up before I attempt to allow it in.

The newest Thor trailer.

15 cases of really bad film and TV superhero costumes. The 1997 pilot for Justice League of America makes the list, as does Generation X and the characters involved in Legends of the Superheroes. I disagree with the inclusion of Magneto’s outfit in the X-Men movies, since that actually looked good. Instead of that, I would have said Halle Berry’s Catwoman, or the 70's version of Dr. Strange.

Oh, and if I’m slow to answer any comments during the course of this next week, this is probably the cause, judging by the latest [livejournal.com profile] status update:

“We are currently upgrading our notification system. Some notifications may be delayed by up to a week. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience while we increase notification efficiency!”

Just thought I'd mention that in case anyone else notices something strange with their own notifications. I’ll periodically check everywhere I’ve posted just in case I miss something. If someone posts in my journal, at least, that ought to pop up on the Journal Comments bit on the main page. I think they were already getting a bit of a lag, because I haven't received as many as I should in the last few days.

Strange.

A developing story is that Wizard Magazine may be dead. Calls go unanswered, the subscription page of their site returns a 404, their “bullpen website” is down, and numerous other suspicious things are going on. Toyfare may continue being published for now, but I wouldn't count on that lasting too long given the evidence. I had just renewed my subscription to Wizard for another year and they’ve cashed that check, so they owe me--and many other people.

ETA: Good, just checked and I hadn't renewed my subscription to Toyfare yet. Now I won't be doing that.

ETA 2: An update on the developing story. They now say that Toyfare will also be ceasing publication immediately.

Snakes. Why’d it have to be snakes? I had a problem with one rather large snake on the front porch (Dad decapitated it with a shovel) which just refused to slither off when I was little, but thousands inside the house? I would have lost it. According to someone in both the Gawker and Jezebel comments, that house was featured on an episode of Animal Planet’s series Infested. If you want to see news footage of the house, head for the Gawker link.

Booster Gold has been cast on Smallville. He will be played by Eric Martsolf, who I know as Brady from Days of Our Lives. And, formerly, Ethan from Passions. He doesn’t really seem right for the role, but he can act.

And now, just spreading a meme from a few on my IJ friends list:

1. Name one of my RP characters and one of yours (or one of someone else's if your really want).
2. Name a destination, anywhere in the known or created universes.
3. I'll write you my character's postcard to the other, from that destination.

There’s two more days for bidding in the auction to help Australia at [livejournal.com profile] qldfloodauction, and my thread is here. Bidding was at $10 as of the last I checked.
